Honest Doubt is Better than Faux Faith
“Christianity has suffered more casualties from faux faith than from honest doubt.”
I‘ve seen this play out and lived it myself so many times. Insecurity causes so much second guessing and self-doubt that we can end up declaring and claiming things we don’t believe because we think we’re supposed to believe it and also we hope it’s enough to want to believe when we don’t.
And wanting to believe is not nothing. I think God can work with that. But if half the group (or more) uses bold and confident faith language for things they only want to believe, a lot of surrounding people are going to feel really dispriented and confused when the language doesn’t line up with the reality.
Maybe we’d get somewhere faster with honest doubt.
